Before Entering the Thick and Green (Wapiti)*

High Plains Encounter (Pronghorn Antelope/Bald Eagle)*
This experience took place at the Wind Cave National Park. I was some 300 yards away to the east watching a large band of pronghorn antelope, numbering 70-75 animals, when I spotted a bald eagle flying above the band. Seeming to have picked one of the pronghorn as potential prey, the eagle made five dives over the antelope, each one putting it closer to the lumbar region of the backbone. On the fourth dive, the talons raked the pronghorn causing tufts of hair to fly away in the wind. On the fifth and final
dive, the eagle settled on the small portion of the antelope's back and was last seen with talons deeply locked in, riding the pronghorn out of sight.

Slap of the Tail (Beaver)*
Beaver may use the tail slap as a warning, but more possibly as a means of identification of objects that has the animal puzzled. A loud resounding whack may stimulate movement in an animal that the beaver is trying to identify
